What this tool does

Trace a rough outline around an object with the polygonal lasso — click point by point — and the tool suggests a cleaner edge that hugs the real object, then removes everything else (a cut-out) or the outlined area itself. Keep the result transparent or fill it with a solid color. It's great for product shots, logos, and headshots.

How to make a selection

Click around the object to drop corner points — you don't need to be precise. Each click adds a straight edge to the outline, and a dotted line follows your cursor so you can see the next segment. When you're back near the start, click the first point again (or press Close shape, or double-click) to finish. Use Undo point to drop the last corner while drawing, or Undo shape afterward.

Remove one part at a time

Removal is step by step. After you outline a part and press Apply removal, that part is erased and the result becomes your new working image. Outline another part and apply again to remove only that part from what's left — so you can cut out the subject first, then clean up stray bits one at a time. Undo removal steps back one applied cut; Reset starts the image over. (You can also just outline and download in one shot — applying is only needed to stack several cuts.)

The suggested edge

Because a hand-drawn outline rarely lands exactly on an object, the tool refines it for you. It treats the area well inside your outline as “keep” and the area well outside as “remove,” builds a small color model of each, and reclassifies the uncertain band right around your line — so the selection snaps toward the true edge.

The Snap distance slider sets how far the edge may move to find that boundary: raise it when your outline was loose, lower it if the suggestion grabs too much. Turn the suggestion off any time to use your outline exactly as drawn. Edge softness then feathers the cut so it blends instead of looking jagged.

Tips for a clean cut

Trace loosely just inside and around the object — the suggestion cleans up the rest.
Add more corner points around curves and tight corners for a closer outline.
The suggestion works best when the object clearly contrasts with its background.
If a suggested edge overreaches, lower Snap distance; if it cuts in, raise it.
