How your take-home pay is worked out
Your net pay is your gross salary minus mandatory contributions and withholding tax:
- Mandatory contributions first โ SSS (employee share of the monthly salary credit), PhilHealth (2.5% of monthly basic), and Pag-IBIG (1โ2%, capped at โฑ200).
- Withholding tax next โ computed on what's left after contributions, using the BIR graduated rates under the TRAIN law.
- What remains is your estimated monthly take-home pay.
Adding overtime
Just enter your total overtime hours for the month and pick the day type โ the calculator works out the overtime pay for you. It derives your hourly rate from your basic salary (basic ร 12 รท the days-per-year factor รท 8), multiplies by the DOLE rate for that day type, then folds the result in. That overtime pay is handled differently from your basic salary, and correctly so:
- Contributions don't change โ SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG are based on your basic monthly salary, so overtime does not raise them.
- Tax does change โ overtime is part of your taxable compensation, so it's added to the base the withholding tax is computed on.
Need to double-check the overtime figure, or add a night-shift differential? Use the dedicated Overtime Pay Calculator. Note that overtime pay is tax-exempt for minimum-wage earners, so leave the hours at zero if that applies to you.
